Where Africa’s Trust in Medicine Begins

There’s a moment everyone knows – reaching for the medicine cabinet at 2am, trusting that what’s inside will actually work. That trust doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built, batch by batch, over decades, by companies willing to hold themselves to a standard higher than anyone is asking of them. That’s the company we built.

We are Evans Baroque (EB) – and for nearly 70 years, in one form or another, we’ve been part of the story of pharmaceutical manufacturing in West Africa. Our journey began as Glaxo Nigeria Limited, and the Agbara facility we still call home today has been producing medicine for over 40 years, making it one of the largest pharmaceutical manufacturing sites in the country. Along the way, that heritage grew deeper; through Miral Nigeria, Miral Sierra Leone, and a powerful partnership with Baroque Pharmaceuticals, an India-based pharmaceutical company with manufacturing operations across multiple countries, accelerated our local manufacturing and product development capability until it became something bigger than any one of its parts: Evans Baroque Ltd.

Here’s what that heritage earned us: our Agbara facility is one of only four facilities in all of Nigeria to hold World Health Organization prequalification. Not four in our category. Four, period, out of an entire country. That’s not a title we claim lightly – it’s a standard that had to be earned, inspection by inspection, and one we defend every single day.

Today, that legacy powers a portfolio of 120+ products spanning pain relief, malaria treatment, antibiotics, family vitamins, and everyday wellness essentials – manufactured at our Agbara facility and distributed across Africa, with our physical operations rooted in Nigeria and Sierra Leone. And we’re not slowing down: every day, we’re refining, strengthening, and expanding that portfolio, because a healthier Africa isn’t a milestone we reach once. It’s a promise we keep renewing.

Certified to a Standard That Doesn’t Bend

Trust isn’t something we ask for – it’s something we prove, batch after batch. Our Agbara facility holds Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certification from NAFDAC, in full alignment with World Health Organization GMP standards, and is registered with the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN). We were first WHO/GMP-certified in 2014, and we’ve held ourselves to that standard through every audit since – because in this industry, “good enough” was never good enough.
