Lisinopril
Lisinopril is used to:
- Treat acute myocardial infarction, heart failure and hypertension.
Composition
- Lisinopril
Dosage
- Acute MI: 5mg within 24hrs of onset of symptoms, the 5mg after 24hrs, 10mg after 48hrs, and 10mg daily for 6weeks.
- Hypertension: Not taking diuretic, 10mg/day initially; usual range is 20-40 mg/day as a single daily dose.
- If taking diuretic, discontinue diuretic for 2-3 days before initiating lisinopril to reduce chances of hypotension; may resume diuretic if BP is not controlled.
- Or if diuretic cannot be discontinued, initial dose of lisinopril 5mg should be used under supervision for at least 2hrs and until BP has stabilised for at least 1hr.
- Heart failure: Adjunctive therapy with diuretics and (usually) digitalis; 5mg/day initially, increase by ≤10mg no more frequent than 2 week intervals to 20-40 mg/day.
